ATLANTA -- Jeff Teague and the Atlanta Hawks had been in this situation a couple of times already this season. So when the Orlando Magic erased Atlantas 17-point lead in the third quarter, Teague wanted to be a calming influence. "Were still learning every day," he said. "I was glad to see us bounce back, get the lead back up and make plays at the end. Hard work is paying off." Teague had 19 points and 13 assists, Paul Millsap scored 18 points with 11 rebounds and the Hawks beat Orlando 104-94 on Saturday night. Arron Afflalo finished with 21 points for the Magic, who have dropped 15 straight on the road dating to last March 4. Mike Scott had 17 points in a reserve role and Al Horford scored 15 and Kyle Korver added 14 for Atlanta. Korver made a 3 in his 79th consecutive game to surpass Dennis Scott and tie Michael Adams for second place on the NBA career list. After Korver hit a 3 on a fast break late in the fourth, Teagues fastbreak layup made it 97-88 with 1:41 remaining. The Hawks have won nine straight over the Magic at Philips Arena. Jameer Nelson and Andrew Nicholson each finished with 13 points for Orlando. Atlanta took the games first double-digit lead at 57-47 on Millsaps jumper with 9:30 left in the third. DeMarre Carroll followed with a 3 and Millsap hit a layup for a 15-point lead that caused Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn to call a timeout. "Guys were just getting in position where they were open," Teague said. "I was hitting them, and they were making shots. Paul and Kyle had their pick and pop all night, and they were making them. When I was getting in the lane, I was doing my best to draw defenders and kick it to them." Carrolls reverse dunk a couple of minutes later put the Hawks ahead by 17 for the games biggest lead, but the Magic went on a 23-7 run that ended with Andrew Nicholsons hook shot in the final minute of the third and gave Orlando a 71-70 lead. The Magic, who dropped to 0-3 on the road this season, got back in contention defensively by shutting down the passing lanes and forcing Atlanta to wind down the shot clock on multiple possessions late in the third and early in the fourth. "We fought our way back into the game," Vaughn said. "That unit that was on the floor gave us a lot of energy on the second night of a back-to-back and got us back into the game, take the lead. Everybody has to be on the same page. Until then, were going to continue to get our (expletive) kicked, Rose said. Were not communicating while were on the floor to one another. Everybody is quiet. Trust plays a part, but communicating on defense in a team sport is huge. Weve got to give a better effort. It seems like were not even competing. Its (expletive) irritating. The Bulls were handed their sixth loss in eight games by the Cavaliers and shot 37.5 percent from the field. They were out-rebounded by a 54-40 margin and Rose scored 18 points on 5-of-14 field-goal shooting. Rose should be one of the last players to preach about having an edge and communicating when hes been heavily criticized for not playing through pain and sacrificing for his teammates. He has missed plenty of time with various injuries and probably would sit two or three games with a hangnail. Your concern about long term doesnt hold much weight, and now is when the Bulls need you the most. Including the Cleveland game, Rose shot no better than 35 percent five times over a 12-game stretch. Everybody has a bad game here and there, but Rose is supposed to be the leader of the Bulls and one of the top guards in the league. By no means am I trying to question Roses ability or imply hes soft because he is still a top scorer in the league and hasnt proven it on a consistent basis.
