Knoxville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Tennessee is headed to its first bowl game in four seasons and has thus rewarded coach Butch Jones with a two-year contract extension. The deal will now run through the 2020 season and also increases the coachs compensation to $3.6 million per year. Tennessee finished 6-6 in 2014 after three straight seasons of 5-7 and will play Iowa in the TaxSlayer Bowl on Jan. 2 in Jacksonville. The Vols last reached a bowl game after the 2010 campaign. When you are rebuilding a program, you face many challenges in order to change the culture, said Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart on Monday. A tireless effort is required from the entire organization. The most critical piece of the puzzle is leadership, and we have the right man leading our football program. Butch Jones has re-energized our fan base and is an outstanding ambassador for our university. The Vols are 11-13 in two seasons under Jones, who took over in December 2012 after three years in Cincinnati and three years at Central Michigan. He owns a career coaching mark of 61-40. I am very honored and grateful to be the head football coach at the University of Tennessee, and I understand what this program represents, said Jones. This has been a complete team effort as we continue to rebuild and restore the Tennessee football program to the standards and expectations that we all have. In eight seasons as a head coach, Jones has led his teams to six bowl appearances. He was 23-14 at Cincinnati, leading the Bearcats to consecutive Big East titles in 2011 and 12, and also guided Central Michigan to a pair of Mid-American championships with a mark of 27-13 during his three years with the Chippewas. Grapevine, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Mississippi State are all still seated at the head of the table in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Three of the four programs cruised to easy victories last Saturday, with only Florida State getting tested by Boston College, but their stay is tenuous with arch-rivals lurking to knock them from their perch. Alabama (10-1) comes in at No. 1 for the second straight week, and the Crimson Tide can seal a trip to the SEC Championship with a win over Auburn on Saturday. Auburns title hopes faded with a loss to Georgia two weeks ago, but the Tigers can still spoil Alabamas season with another Iron Bowl upset. Last year, Auburn shocked then-undefeated Alabama on Chris Davis memorable return of a missed field goal on the final play of the game. Oregon (10-1), which sits at No. 2, will meet Oregon State in what looks like a Civil War mismatch, while Florida State and Mississippi State are also battling in-state rivals. Mississippi State (10-1) followed up its loss to Alabama with a 51-0 trouncing of Vanderbilt, but the blowout was not enough to jump the Bulldogs over the undefeated Seminoles (11-0), who struggled beforee putting away BC on a last- second field goal.dddddddddddd The defending national champion Seminoles host Florida this weekend, while Mississippi and Ole Miss square off in the latest edition of the Egg Bowl. TCU, Ohio State and Baylor sit at No. 5-7, respectively, and need some help sneaking into the one of the top four spots. TCU (9-1) visits Texas on Thanksgiving, Ohio State (10-1) hopes to avoid an upset against Michigan, while Baylor (9-1) and Texas Tech meet in Arlington for what should a high-scoring affair. UCLA, Georgia and Michigan State round out the top-10, while Arizona, Kansas State, Arizona State, Wisconsin, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Clemson, Louisville, Boise State, Marshall and Utah complete the top-25.
